Foundation Story

The Anambra Association of Minnesota (ANAM), formerly known as the Anambra Development Association in Minnesota (ADAM), started in the year 2000. A group of Anambra indigenes residing in Minnesota (now known as the pioneer/founding members) came together after a visit from the incumbent Executive Governor of Anambra state, Dr. Chinwoke Clem Mbadinuju. The governor’s visit was a cry for help in developing Anambra state. The founding members did not stop at helping the Executive Governor achieve his goal. They realized that they could leverage the open communication channel and opportunities available to better the well-being of less privileged children, including minorities living in Minnesota and back home in Nigeria, while upholding and promoting the culture and heritage of Anambra.

The next thought of the founding members was to recruit other Anambra indigenes living in Minnesota because they knew there was power in numbers. Prominent to the act of recruiting members were Dr. Anakwenze, Mr. Asiegbu Jim, and Nze Kally Albert.

The first official meeting was held on June 3rd, 2000, with 12 members in attendance as follows: Okafor Tony, Obi Isaac, Okolie Chinwe, Okonkwo Vince, Okeke Nnamdi, Anunike Mike, Anosike Peter, Bobby Sea, Ibekwe Fortune, Ekwufolu Daniel, Ezeagwu Uche, and Albert Kally Sr.

The organization, since its inception in 2000, has grown from 12 members to over 100 members. Over the years, the organization has been involved in many charity projects, fundraising, Volunteering, Education, etc.
